With the transfer window now just one week away, there has been plenty of speculation linking Spurs with new players. However, while Andre Villas-Boas may still be looking to bolster his squad in some areas, he has confirmed that Tottenham are no longer searching for a striker after completing a deal for Emmanuel Adebayor earlier this week.
Despite Adebayor’s arrival, various media outlets have suggested that AVB could be set to make a move for Brazilian duo Leandro Damiao and Willian. However, the former Chelsea boss has moved to distance himself from such reports and also stated that Spurs will not be signing another striker in this transfer window.
Speaking at a press conference he said, “Leandro is a fantastic player that I know of. I went to see him in Brazil when I was doing nothing! He is obviously a good, good player but he is not on our prospect at the moment, because I think we are closed on what we are trying to do with the strike situation. In that sense [Willian] the only thing I can tell you is that last year when I was at Chelsea I was interested in the player and I appreciate his qualities.”
Following on from those comments, it now remains to be seen which direction the club take over the course of the next week. With Michael Dawson seemingly set to leave the club, there are suggestions that AVB could be on the lookout for a new defender. Of course, with Luka Modric also set to depart for Real Madrid, Spurs could have a gaping hole in midfield. Still, with Modric set to bring the club a hefty transfer fee, Daniel Levy may at least be able to provide his manager with significant funds to bring a replacement player into White Hart Lane.
