Tottenham defender Kyle Naughton has revealed that he is extremely keen on working with new manager Mauricio Pochettino, who was appointed as the replacement for Tim Sherwood. Sherwood lasted just a few months as the manager of Tottenham, as he failed to get the club into the top four of the Premier League. After impressing in his 18 months at Southampton, Pochettino has been brought into improve the fortunes of Spurs. Tottenham have finished in the top four only once in the history of the Premier league and it will be a difficult task to repeat with the likes of Liverpool and Arsenal improving.
Despite this, Naughton is confident that Pochettino will be a success at Tottenham and he cannot wait to start under the new management. The players will be getting a first taste of the new manager in the pre-season friendly matches. Spurs will be facing the likes of Toronto FC, Seattle Sounders, and Chicago Fire as they are involved in a pre-season tour of the United States. Naughton says that the players will be trying to understand the style of play that the manager wants to implement at the club. Tottenham are expected to utilise the same high pressing and intense tempo game that has been a feature of Pochettino at his previous clubs.
“When you get a new manager you can’t really get used to playing his style unless it’s in a realistic game situation so that will be one of the main things to get out of the tour. You can really put the style of play that he wants into practise and that’s obviously one of the main things the friendlies are about. Fitness is another big thing that you can get out of these games and also team spirit,” said the Tottenham defender.
