Villas-Boas contacted already

Despite intense speculation linking David Moyes to the vacant manager position at Spurs, it is understood that contact has already been made to former Chelsea boss Andre Villas-Boas. It is thought that representatives from White Hart Lane have already contacted Villas-Boas’ agent, in the hope of finding out whether or not the 34-year-old would be seriously interested in returning to football management at Tottenham.

Chairman Daniel Levy has already stated that the process in selecting Harry Redknapp’s successor will not be fast, and the club will carry out a proper search in order to get the right man. Levy has been away from London all through the weekend yet on his return on Monday, he has already started gathering information about potential candidates. It is understood that Levy, alongside board members Joe Lewis and directors Sir Keith Mills, Matthew Collecott and Donna Cullen, will be responsible for the recruitment of Spurs’ next boss.

As well as Villas-Boas and Moyes, there have been countless other names linked with the post. Laurent Blanc has emerged as a possible candidate, after it became known that the former Manchester United defender’s contract with the France national team comes to an end after this year’s European Championships.

Another name who has featured prominently in reports is Roberto Martinez, although it is not acknowledged whether Wigan would be willing to let their manager discuss terms with another club following the turbulence they have already suffered to their close season. Other names include Jurgen Klinsmann and Fabio Capello – with the latter still out of work following his dismissal by England earlier this year.

Whoever comes in, they certainly have large boots to fill. White Hart Lane is still in a state of shock following the departure of Harry Redknapp and many pundits are tipping Spurs to deteriorate.
