Villas-Boas to be appointed?

Newspaper reports over the weekend have suggested that Andre Villas-Boas has been chosen as the man to replace Harry Redknapp. It’s understood that Villas-Boas has beaten off competition from the likes of Laurent Blanc and David Moyes to land the position on a four year contract, worth an estimated £16m.

The move certainly won’t come as a surprise to most Spurs fans, as there has been speculation linking AVB to White Hart Lane ever since Harry Redknapp departed last month. While there have been rumours surrounding a possible move for Laurent Blanc following his departure from the France national team, it’s understood that Villas-Boas has always been the main contender and that he should be appointed later this week.

It is certainly going to be interesting to see how the former Porto boss fares in his second stint in England. After arriving at previous club Chelsea with a huge reputation, he saw his project at Stamford Bridge fail miserably amid player fall-outs and a whole array of other problems. His tenure was ended in March this year and following his departure, the Blues went on to experience much more success.

Daniel Levy is reportedly desperate to give AVB the best possible chance of success at his new club, with some newspapers hinting that Spurs will offer him £70m to spend on new players. This takes into account the proposed departure of Luka Modric, with Villas-Boas already aware that Spurs’ star midfielder is extremely likely to leave this summer.

It also appears as though Villas-Boas is happy with the proposed moves for Jan Vertonghen and Gylfi Sigurdsson. Both have been linked with Spurs for some time and after receiving approval from the 34-year-old, it is thought that Levy is ready to sanction the two transfers with deals already agreed for both.
