With Tottenham having the chance to close the gap on league leaders Chelsea to just two points this weekend, there is certainly a lot riding on the match. Most people believe that it will be one of the toughest games that Spurs face, although forward Clint Dempsey says the club should look to utilise their home advantage as much as possible in a bid to gain an advantage over Andre Villas-Boas’ former employers.
While Spurs started the campaign in poor fashion, over recent weeks they have really come into their own and there is now renewed optimism at White Hart Lane following the two week international break. Supporters are finally starting to believe that the club can launch a top four finish under new manager AVB, although some are waiting until after Sunday’s game against Chelsea before forming a more solid opinion. As well as being the current leaders of the top flight, Chelsea are just one of two clubs in the division who have yet to lose a game.
However, Clint Dempsey is trying to view the situation in a different regard. The former Fulham ace claims that Tottenham should look to use their home leverage as much as possible if they are to record a positive result. He told Sky Sports News, “It is going to be an important game because the table is so tight. You have to take care of your home games and try and get as many results as you can.”
Of course, the fact that the club have won the last four games will certainly provide a big confidence boost ahead of this next challenge. Furthermore, Spurs have been relatively impressive at White Hart Lane and approach this clash having not lost at home throughout the season, while they have won their last two there.
