Sigurdsson set for Spurs?

There have been an unbelievable amount of rumours surrounding Gylfi Sigurdsson’s future this summer, with the majority of them focussed on his potential move to either Swansea or Liverpool. Despite that speculation, it now appears as though the former Reading forward is set to sign for Tottenham, with the betting odds indicating that the move will go ahead in the very near future.

It was only last month that Sigurdsson appeared to be on the verge of a permanent move to Swansea, after experiencing a successful loan stint at the Liberty Stadium last term. However, following Brendan Rodgers’ switch to Liverpool, speculation soon became rife that Sigurdsson would follow his former boss and sign at Anfield. Nevertheless, the bookmakers are suggesting that this is no longer the case, with the odds on the 22-year-old transferring to White Hart Lane shortening to an unbelievable 1/3.

Many people believed that Sigurdsson’s move to Liverpool was a foregone conclusion, with Brendan Rodgers stating that if a deal with his former employers had broken down he would most certainly be interested in the Hoffenheim man. However, reports are suggesting that Spurs have stepped in and offered a hugely inflated financial package, which has been enough to persuade Sigurdsson that his future lays at White Hart Lane. This is despite the fact that the club do not currently have a permanent manager in charge, while there is currently no indication on which man will end up replacing the recently departed Harry Redknapp.

It is understood that Spurs will pay around £8m for the forward, which is a similar figure to what Liverpool supposedly agreed just a couple of weeks ago. Hoffenheim have certainly managed to do very well over Sigurdsson’s change of heart, after the original package with Swansea was thought to be worth just £6.8m.
