Six players allowed to leave

Having now had time to assess his squad following his high-profile appointment, reports are now suggesting that Andre Villas-Boas has told six Spurs players that they no longer have a future at White Hart Lane. It is being speculated that AVB has already held meetings with the players, in a bid to find them new clubs as quickly as possible.

According to the reports, Giovani Dos Santos, Jermaine Jenas, David Bentley, William Gallas, Sebastien Bassong and Kyle Naughton are the unlucky parties, as AVB aims to put his own stamp on the squad after taking over from Harry Redknapp.

Should the speculation be true, it would be fair to say that supporters would not be surprised in the slightest at some players on the list. For example, Giovani Dos Santos has made no secret of the fact that he wishes to depart England and he’ll likely be buoyed by Villas-Boas’ decision. Elsewhere, the future has been written on the wall for David Bentley and William Gallas for some time, with both regarded as squad players through recent campaigns.

However, the decision to move Kyle Naughton on is certainly disappointing considering the reputation he arrived with. After signing from Sheffield United in a large transfer back in 2009, there were great hopes for the young full back yet he has struggled to establish himself in the Spurs first team and has played most of his football in loan spells at Middlesbrough, Leicester and Norwich.

Elsewhere, even though Bassong and Jenas have now been at White Hart Lane for some time, most supporters will be happy that AVB is looking to move them out of the club. The duo were sent out on loan to other top flight outfits last term and many believe that refreshing changes like these have to be made if Spurs are to progress.
