There was never any doubt that Andre Villas-Boas was going to utilise the transfer window right to the last minute and it looks as though he is closing in on his second signing since taking over earlier in the summer. The club have had an offer for Belgium international Moussa Dembele accepted by Fulham and it’s widely thought that the player will complete a medical in the near future.
It is understood that Spurs’ offer is approximately £12m for the player, with AVB desperate to spend the recent Luka Modric money to bolster his squad. Moreover, such a move is not merely paper talk, with Fulham manager Martin Jol confirming the facts in a blunt comment to reporters last night by saying, “The player is currently undergoing a medical.”
Many Spurs fans are likely to be very happy with the transfer, after Dembele made such an impact during the Cottagers’ game against Manchester United at the weekend. The 25-year-old was a constant thorn in the side of Sir Alex Ferguson’s men and there were even suggestions then that his performance could alert some of the top Premier League clubs.
However, it’s not just that display that appears to have won Dembele this switch to White Hart Lane. Since joining FUlham from AZ Alkmaar in a £5m deal in 2010, the midfielder has impressed with his dynamic performances and has been a key player for the Craven Cottage outfit during their rise up the Premier League over the last couple of years.
Even though AVB is splashing out a considerable amount of money on Dembele, it’s still not thought that his business has been completed yet. While Spurs have finalised deals for several players this summer, the former Chelsea boss has overseen just two of these and is understood to want to put his own stamp on the team.
